Abstract
This paper reflects on some of the parallels in methods of scriptural interpretation observed in some Christian uses of the Bible and Muslim uses of the Qur'an in relation to current Middle Eastern conflict.  It uses some of the findings of the 'Daniel, Islam, Apocalyptic' project, which is part of CMCS Oxford's 'Reading the Bible in the Context of Islam' project and is based at CMCS Houston.   Key characteristics of the material studied include the putting together of different kinds of discourse - for example, religious discourse and secular discourse - and of different parts of scripture.    The eschatological dimensions of the material exhibit a different kind of 'putting together' - of past scripture, present reality, and predictions about the future.    The paper offers an analysis of such 'putting together' using the framework of 'land, people, power' that the author has developed elsewhere.
