First lecture: Evolutionary and Societal Perspectives on Ageing
The Utrecht Longevity Society is a new student community for everyone who is curious about ageing! In our lecture series we look at ageing science from different perspectives, to show that longevity is more than what you see in the media.
In this first lecture we start with evolutionary and societal perspectives, by evolutionary biologist Dr. Jelle Zandveld (Utrecht University). Jelle researches life-history biology, mostly in fruit flies. This is an introductory lecture, so it is open to everyone who is interested. You do not need a bachelor's degree in biology to follow it. We keep it accessible, but still in depth for people who know more about the field. We want to start a conversation.
The evening has a break in the middle. The first half is the lecture on evolutionary perspectives on ageing, and the second half is more of a debate and a societal perspective, with lots of input from the audience. Only have time for one half? Come to just the first or just the second half, and let us know. We are happy to see you whichever part you can make!
