The only Meeting you'll actually want to attend in person.
Look, we get it.
The endless swipes. Conversations over text that go nowhere. Relying on an algorithm to decide who you should meet. Even IRL events that want to pair you with the "most compatible" person in the room.
The dating scene is exhausting.
We call BS on all of it.
Maybe it's because we grew up on '90s rom-coms and still believe in the romance of meeting someone IRL by sheer chance.
Maybe it's because we refuse to believe that some of our most interesting, smart and cute friends are still single.
Maybe it's because we refuse to fall into the whole trap of acting nonchalant or pretending that we don't believe or want the kind of love that is as soul consuming as it is comforting.
But we also know that life today isn't exactly designed for meeting new people, having a good conversation and finding that spark that makes you want to keep talking.
So we decided to host The Meeting.
Our co-host Shilpa spent two years living in Seoul, where she discovered a dating culture built around meetings: groups of friends getting together for low-pressure activities and meeting other people who were also open to intentional dating.
And what better place to bring that idea to Singapore than Brooklyn Bar?
Our other co-host, Mark, runs the place, and has been playing matchmaker for regulars. It's also where Shilpa has made countless friends simply by showing up at the bar.
So, we're taking things offline.
Here's what you can expect:
1. Show up and grab your welcome drink.
We'll get you settled in.
2. Join your first table.
You'll be given a table to join, with a mix of people you probably wouldn't have met otherwise.
3. Get talking.
Each table will have conversation prompts and games — none of the "What do you do for work?" small talk. The questions are designed to help you actually get to know the people around you.
4. Switch it up every 25 minutes.
You'll move tables throughout the evening, giving you the chance to meet as many people as possible.
5. Finish with Human Bingo.
Because what's a social mixer without a little chaos? ;)
At the end of the evening, we hope you find a spark with someone and continue the conversation over a drink at Brooklyn.
And if you don't? That's okay too.
You'll leave having had good food, good drinks, a few unexpected conversations and hopefully some new people to tell your friends about.
We're intentionally keeping The Meeting intimate so there's actually time to have proper conversations. We'll also be curating the guest list (everyone above 30 years old), so everyone coming along is there with good intentions and an openness to meeting someone new.
