Rogaland Toastmasters Meeting - Trick or Treat: The Psychology of Persuasion
🎃 Trick or Treat: The Psychology of Persuasion
Every day, someone is trying to persuade you: an ad, a colleague, a clever headline, a very confident friend. Some of it is a trick. Some of it is a treat. The skill is telling them apart, and then learning to offer only treats.
Great speakers don’t win people over with volume. They use structure, story, timing and a good question at the right moment. Weaker persuasion leans on pressure, flattery and sleight of hand. One leaves people better off. The other leaves them wondering what just happened.
Our meeting runs on a simple mechanic: prepared speeches, a live evaluation after each one, and Table Topics® where you’re handed a question you’ve never seen and speak on it for a minute or two. This time, all of it is about the art of persuasion: what works, what only seems to, and how to do it honestly.
🍬 Costumes optional. Curiosity required.
🎤 Guests attend free and pick their own level: watch quietly, or take a Table Topics® question. Nobody is called on unwillingly, and nobody is asked to share their screen-time report.
