About Event

In this free, 1-hour interactive workshop, we'll explore five questions:

  • Why do you get stuck overthinking?

  • What assumptions might be limiting the career paths you're considering?

  • How can curiosity help you approach career uncertainty differently?

  • What are career experiments, and how can they help you explore new possibilities?

  • How can you take the first small step without committing your future?

Who is this for?

PhD researchers, postdocs, senior scientists and research leaders who are questioning their next career move, considering a change in direction, or curious about what else they could do.

Whether you're exploring opportunities within or beyond academia, this workshop is for those who want to move beyond overthinking and start exploring.

What will we cover?

We'll introduce the Career Experiments framework as a practical way to explore career possibilities through curiosity and small, low-risk experiments.

You'll learn how to challenge assumptions about your career, identify what you're curious about, and use real-world experiences to discover what interests and energises you.

There will also be short interactive exercises to help you design your own experiments, followed by time for questions.

Who is the host?

I'm Matt, a neuroscientist turned career coach and founder of MJB Consulting. After 17 years in academia, I transitioned to starting my own business via experimenting with startups and consulting.

Today, I help scientists get unstuck, navigate uncertainty and take practical steps towards finding their own career path through coaching and interactive workshops.
