About Event

True resilience isn't built when things go according to plan. It's made in the moments after everything falls apart.

Theo Brikas lost his position in private banking, and with it the life he had spent years building. He started trail running — not to escape, but to find out what was left. It did not go well at first: in his first four major events he failed to reach the finish line, stopped by injuries and by his own head.

Then his daughter asked him the question that nearly ended it: "Why do you keep going back? You're not making it either way, why try again?"

The turning point came days into a six-day ultra, knees swollen, with the race doctor telling him to stop. In banking, circumstances had taken the decision out of his hands. On the trail, the choice was his alone. He finished.

Recently he completed a 7-day, 400-kilometer ultra-marathon with 27,000 meters of elevation, sleeping an average of 20 minutes a day. Today he runs his own financial practice, rebuilt from scratch.

On 14 October he takes the stage at Ship26 to tell the whole story: how losing everything taught him to win, and what the psychology of ultra-running does for the rest of a life.
