On Background with Re/code
Fireside chat with Kara Swisher, co-founder of Re/code, and panel conversation with Ina Fried, Lauren Goode, Mike Isaac, and John Paczkowski
We're throwing a Re/trospective, in partnership with friends at Accel, Milltown Partners, and Plaid.
Re/code Media (and AllThingsD before it) played a foundational role in the institutionalization of Silicon Valley investigative journalism. The Re/code team deftly balanced rigorous scrutiny of power with real love of technology, pioneered podcasting and media events, and were early to understand that the reporter was as much a product as the story itself. In conversations with Kara and several alumni, we'll discuss what Re/code got right (and what it may have missed), the ever-evolving power dynamic between media and Big Tech, and how Re/code would cover the AI era if the publication were still around today. We'll also almost certainly get into Kara's thoughts on you-know-who, you-know-what, and you-know-which-media-family.
Doors open at 5:00pm for snacks and drinks. We'll kick off conversations promptly at 6:00pm.
This will be the third event in a series of invitation-only discussions about communications, media, and the institutions that shape public narrative. These events are designed for real conversation — by attending, you agree to Chatham House rules.
