Nurturing Our Mosaic Community: Group counselling sessions for diasporas, micro activists, and multicultural people who care

Community-centred group counselling sessions for cross-cultural people of Barcelona, who want to learn from and with each other, honour diversity in a connected space, rooted in curiosity, compassion, and reciprocity.

We believe that emotional wellbeing should be much more accessible to everyone and that therapeutic spaces need to have more intentional considerations of diverse cultural backgrounds. These group sessions would be facilitated in ways that honour and celebrate both individual unique inner wisdom and welcome surprising gifts from the group dynamic. Expect a blend of therapeutic approaches (e.g. IFS, Somatic Experiencing, Compassionate Inquiry, participatory musical or art expression) tailored to the group’s needs.

Two groups will meet for 3 consecutive weeks:

Group 1: Colourful Diasporas (Thursdays 18h - 20h30)
Dates: July 2, 9, and 16 [LINK to Register]
For long-term stayers from all over with various biographies, passport struggles, and colourful cultures, who are in the process of navigating (and dancing with) the interesting (sometimes hilarious) challenges of growing roots in Barcelona while existing in this continuous, turbulent world.

Group 2: Micro Activists (Saturdays 15h - 17h30)
Dates: July 4, 11, and 18 [Register on this page]
For those who are even unsure if they are an activist (hint: most likely you are). If you care about the pain of the world, and have been using some of your time and energy in doing small, impact-inducing activities (including bringing reusable coffee cups every day, joining weekly beach clean-up, or convincing your ex to vote), this is your place.

** Note: if you’re unable to come in one of the weeks, please let us know in advance, to make sure we can take care of the group dynamics.

In general, these sessions are definitely for you if:

  • You’re longing for a dedicated space to slow down, to tune in, to alchemize pain and struggles, individually, while being in connection with fellow imperfect humans who deeply care.

  • You would love to learn how to observe and care for your inner landscape, and how to practice compassionate listening and space holding for each other.

  • You’re open to the unknown, to learning from each other, to the risks of making mistakes, and to being transformed along the way, together.

Agenda:

  • 30 mins — arrival and warm up

  • 2 hours — group session

  • Closing

Practical info:

  • Language: Facilitations will be in (non-native) English, but sharing can be delivered in any language (even non-verbal) that you feel comfortable in.

  • Session fee: Self-determined on the day. Options: 5, 10, 15, 20 eur per session. Regular therapy and counselling sessions in Barcelona are 50 -100 eur per person per hour. We want emotional wellbeing to be much more accessible for everyone. We trust your discernment about what represents your commitment, and we respect your financial situation. Consider giving more to support the mission and friends who aren’t in the capacity to contribute more at the moment. If you're not in a position to contribute monetarily, please don’t hesitate to come, and we’ll definitely find other ways for you to share care for the community :)

  • Size: we’re planning for 10–15 people.

Your facilitator:
Hola! I’m Inez (LinkedIn), and I’ve been practicing counselling and integrative psychotherapy since 2020. I’m an Indonesian passport holder who moved from Bali to Barcelona 2 years ago. While growing my roots and navigating paperwork, I’ve been inspired by the colourful diasporas melting pot in Barcelona, and deeply intrigued by how cultural roots influence our various ways of processing emotions (which aren’t addressed enough in some conventional therapy approaches). This led me to take further study in Transcultural Counselling.

This group counselling initiative is part of a personal wish to weave a regenerative constellation of mosaic community in Barcelona, that's rooted in curiosity, compassion, active care, colourful expressions, and reciprocity. Beyond a project, this will be an ever-evolving living system where people from diverse biographies can learn and cultivate active care for each other, ushering much-needed evolution of the systems from the colourful ground.

I have faith in GloCal (global coalition + local actions) movements. I miss Indonesian coconuts almost every day. And every Friday morning, I sing with abuelitos from ParkinSongs – a music therapy group for people with Parkinson’s. Incredible joy!
