Too Close or Too Distant? How Childhood Shapes Our Relationship Patterns
Hosted by: Longevity Germany
📅 Date: Saturday, April 18, 2026
🕥 Time: 10:30 – 12:00
📍 Location: Blutenburgstraße 59, Munich
What’s This About?
Everyone has heard that childhood is especially formative for our psychological development. But why? What exactly do we learn in childhood, and how does it affect us later in life?
This is the first talk in a series exploring two questions:
What influence do childhood and adolescence have on our adult lives?
And how does therapy help us change?
In this first session — Too close or too far: understanding relationship patterns — we will take a first look at how early experiences shape what we seek and avoid in social relationships.
This session includes a 60-minute talk, followed by an open-ended group exercise and discussion.
We’ll explore questions such as:
Why are some people afraid of closeness or of losing themselves in others, while others seem to need a lot of closeness?
Why are some people highly self-sacrificing and struggle to say no?
Why do we feel like we have to hide parts of ourselves and put on masks, even in close relationships?
