FULL | First Table: Learn to Play American Mahjong (2 Classes)

Curious about American Mahjong but not quite sure where to begin? Pull up a chair—this is your First Table.
First Table is House of Marson’s welcoming, 2-night hands-on beginner experience. It’s created for anyone who has never played, has watched from the sidelines wondering what on earth everyone is doing, or has tried to learn but still feels a little lost.
There are no silly questions, no experience is required, and perfection is absolutely not expected. We’ll learn, laugh, move the tiles around, and make sense of the game together—with a few fun House of Marson surprises woven into the experience.
Your registration includes both sessions:
SESSION ONE
Tuesday, October 13, 2026 5:30-8:00 pm
SESSION TWO
Tuesday , October 20, 2026 5:30-8:00 pm
Each session is 2½ hours, giving us five unhurried hours to explore the tiles, learn how to read the National Mah Jongg League card, practice the Charleston, understand calling and exposures, and play complete hands with plenty of guidance along the way.
And yes—by the end of your second session, you will be playing American Mahjong!
You’ll also learn the table etiquette and little traditions that make Mahjong much more than a game—it’s a reason to gather.
Our Table at Bound Books 📚☕️
There’s something special about gathering around a table, and Bound Books gives this First Table an especially cozy setting—books, conversation, and a little time carved out to learn something new.
Before class, stop by Restless Coffee Co., conveniently located across the parking lot, and pick up your favorite coffee, tea, drink, or something to eat. You’re welcome to bring it with you to class and enjoy it at the Mahjong table.
House of Marson will also have light snacks and bottled water waiting for you, and we’ll take a short break midway through each evening.
So grab a coffee, settle in among the books, and get ready to play. 🀄️
What You’ll Need
House of Marson provides the venue, Mahjong sets, racks, mats, and everything needed to play.
A current National Mah Jongg League card is required and is $15. Bring your own, purchase directly from the League, or purchase one from House of Marson the night of the event. Please do not purchase cards from third-party sellers on Amazon, as unauthorized or counterfeit cards may be sold there.
Your registration reserves your place for both sessions. Class is intentionally limited to eight guests—just two tables—so everyone receives personal instruction, encouragement, and plenty of time to practice.
Come exactly as you are. We’ll take care of the table.
