Denver Civic Cafecito
✨ Amigas In Tech is teaming up with the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s Office for a Civic Cafecito on Friday, May 29th. ✨
With the June primary coming up, and with so much shifting around voting access, especially with the recent ruling on the Voting Rights Act, we wanted to bring our local Denver community together to walk through what’s on the ballot and how to actually participate.
We’ll have Clerk Lopez and his team there to walk through how voting works in Colorado, what’s on the ballot, what unaffiliated voters need to know, how to return your ballot correctly, and where to vote, whether that’s drop boxes or in person. We’ll also be joined by local organizations like Latina Initiative and community leaders like Ana Mitchell, who are already doing this work every day and using their platforms to help people understand what’s coming up and how to navigate it.
This isn’t just for people who already feel plugged in. It’s also for anyone who’s felt confused by the process, unsure where to start, or not fully convinced that getting involved even makes a difference. And even if you’re not eligible to vote, there are still ways to stay informed and engaged, and we’ll have information available for that too.
At the end of the day, we want people to leave with a clearer understanding of what’s ahead, what their options are, and how they can show up in whatever way makes sense for them. Come through, grab a cafecito, ask your questions, and we’ll take it from there.
*Note: Complimentary cafecito and light snacks from Convivio Café will be available for everyone, thanks to the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s Office.

She now helps others fight despair with action through civic participation, reframing civic engagement as civic fitness, a lifestyle that makes civic action accessible, authentic, and sustainable. Ana believes we are in urgent need of a cultural shift toward community, and that active participation in civic life is the path forward to building collective power and a stronger democracy. Meet Our Venue Partner:
Convivio Café is a women- and immigrant-owned, Guatemalan-inspired, bilingual café in Denver dedicated to fostering community ("convivio") through sustainable, farmer-roasted coffee and Central American cuisine. Co-owners Kristin Lacy and Vivi Lemus focus on creating a warm, inclusive space, with locations in Northwest Denver and the Alliance Center.
What Are Civic Cafecitos?
This 60–90 minute community event brings together the Clerk and Recorder’s Office and Community Engagement teams in partnership with a local coffee shop to create space for real conversations about the upcoming election. Neighbors can ask questions, get updates on local and federal election changes, and register or update their voter information. The event is designed to meet people where they are, including those who may not be eligible to vote, with opportunities to learn other ways to stay informed and engaged. By hosting this in a locally owned space, we’re also creating a more approachable environment while supporting small businesses in the community.
