Why We Gather

This year, as we celebrate OHRD's decade of radical cooperative work, MAMA Fund's six years of mutual aid work, and Lakou Learning & Liberation co-op's introduction to the ecosystem, we gather in the spirit of rasanblaj—a Haitian term anchoring a Pan-Caribbean de-colonial act of assembling ourselves (back) together. We gather to remember that liberation is a constant and collective practice, that can be rooted in jwi/joy, and we do this until we are all free. All three of these collectives/organizations embody and intertwine in the liberation work we want to celebrate on the evening of April 4th.

OHRD has been providing the scaffolding and infrastructure for alternative institution building since 2015 and we want to celebrate. We want to celebrate with our ecosytem and community and acknowledge the liberation veterans who have worked with OHRD and within the broader liberation movement.

Join MAMA Fund as we celebrate the past six years of running a mostly volunteer-led mutual aid fund for BIPOC folks in Atlanta and running a timebank with members across the metro-area! Look forward to the future with us as we continue to build a mutual aid network (fund and timebank) where we hone in on people power and relationship building to connect and to meet each others needs.

Lakou Learning and Liberation Cooperative is in its 3rd evolution since launching in 2017 as the Anna Julia Cooper Learning and Liberation Center. Reimagined as a member-based global community focused on healing, un/learning and jwi, we welcome friends, family and future-members to celebrate our rebirth with us.

Vibe Check

We are radical, queer, Black, Indigenous, Brown, and feminist centered. We keep space open for accomplices and allies committed to a practice of unlearning and decolonization.

Consent is an affirmative, positive response. Be kind and respectful to each other.

Children's Space

We are committed to collective, communal care for self and others, including children. Children are welcome in all spaces, and it's our shared responsibility to care for and protect them. We honor and celebrate their sovereignty and provide dedicated childcare and engagement space, as well.

Accessibility

Studio Isla has the following accessibility options:
Elevator in parking deck; 7 steps to access the main floor only; and wheelchair accessible bathroom. The childcare room is accessed from the main floor via a flight of stairs.

We ask folks to come as scent-free as possible.

Health Safety + Security

Masking is encouraged, and masks will be provided. If you plan to be unmasked, we strongly encourage testing. If you or any prospective attendee is feeling sick, please stay home and care for yourself.

As abolitionists, we minimize contact with the police. We encourage folks to get help as best they see fit, and we encourage folks to call PAD (Policing Alternatives & Diversion) or 311 before 911. Private security will also be on site.

Join us earlier in the day as we nourish, honor, and celebrate our collective body in shared practices of liberation.

Bring your full liberated self!
