​We present this afternoon to you through the working solidarity of local cultural workers, collectives and community orgs in the spirit of radical mutual aid and liberation centered care in the Black August Tradition! ✨

​Black August is a month of radical solidarity, prison abolition ancestral remembering and rededication to MAKING Black revolutionary history TODAY! It’s a month of reflection, study, and action! We’re happy to close it out with joy in Study and Fighting for a future our youth can thrive in!

​Freedom Schools took root in Mississippi with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee December 1963 they proposed an education program–Freedom Schools–for young Black Mississippians, who suffered in an educational environment that was “geared to squash intellectual curiosity and different thinking.” Such a program would empower young people “to articulate their own desires, demands, and questions” and “to find alternative and ultimately new directions for action.”
