Civic Coffee Hour: How Norwalk learns about its candidates, with the League of Women Voters

​Elsa Peterson Obuchowski has been a Norwalk resident and small business owner in editorial services for more than 30 years. She is active in the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Norwalk, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. Her focus is on voter registration and on the League’s scholarship program – their small way of building the next generation of educated voters. She formerly served on the board of the LWV of Connecticut.

​Elsa is also a Commissioner of Norwalk’s First Taxing District, having previously served as its Treasurer. The District operates the water utility for some 45,000 customers in the eastern portion of Norwalk and small areas of New Canaan and Westport, as well as owning and maintaining several park properties, notably the Norwalk Green.

​Active in the Norwalk Democratic Town Committee (DTC) and currently its Treasurer, Elsa has served in various DTC leadership roles as well as in the District A Democratic subcommittee. She enjoys writing postcards to voters and has spent weekends door knocking for Democratic candidates including Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-5).

​A former member of the Oak Hills Park Authority, Elsa encourages everyone to consider serving on one of Norwalk’s dozens of boards and commissions. This type of service is a great way to learn more about how the city is governed and to make one’s voice heard.
