Hands-On with Tailscale and AWS
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll get practical experience deploying and operating Tailscale in AWS in a production-like environment, guided by Tailscale’s Cameron Stokes, Principal Solutions Architect, and Zach Buchheit, Manager of Customer Success Engineering.
Designed for engineers, this session goes beyond “getting started” and focuses on how Tailscale actually enables secure and private connectivity to AWS, how traffic flows and how to debug it, and how to deploy it using best practices for infrastructure as code.

What You’ll Learn
By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:
Install and configure the Tailscale client in AWS
Set up a subnet router to securely access private AWS networks
Deploy a peer relay to improve connectivity performance into private AWS networks
Understand how Tailscale's direct and relayed connections work in practice
Troubleshoot and debug slow or unreliable connections
The emphasis throughout is on real-world scenarios, common failure modes, and operational best practices.
You Should Attend If
This workshop is a good fit if you:
Run, manage or want to get connectivity to AWS environments and need secure access to private resources
Want to replace or simplify VPN, bastion, or SSH-jump-host patterns
Care about understanding the underlying networking concepts behind setting up a secure tunnel into AWS
Prefer infrastructure-as-code over click-ops
Are evaluating Tailscale for production use or scaling an existing deployment
Preparation
To get the most out of the session, please come prepared with:
A laptop with the ability to install software
Access to an AWS account where you can deploy test resources
A Tailscale tailnet that you’re able to experiment in
This can be a personal tailnet or one provided by your organization
Basic familiarity with AWS and networking concepts is helpful, but deep Tailscale experience is not required.
Light refreshments will be available at the beginning of the workshop.
