RFL: Data Center Impact Dashboard Launch!
You're invited to join us for the launch of Rooted Futures Lab’s Data Center Impact Dashboard! A new open source tool mapping the environmental and community impacts of data centers.
The Dashboard is community-built with our global beta tester network to anchor tool tailoring in real needs and ensuring the outcome supports community education, investigative journalism, strategic litigation, and site fight advocacy.
During this session, we’ll introduce the motivations behind the project, walk through the Dashboard and its key features, and hear from two of our community collaborators, investigating data centers in Querétaro, Mexico and Oregon, USA.
We invite you to join the 1 hour meeting and encourage you to invite collaborators who might benefit from the tool. There will be time for discussion, feedback, and collaboration ideas as we continue to build and refine the tool together.
At Rooted Futures Lab, we're dedicated to addressing the systemic neglect of environmental justice in technology development and application. Our mission is to cultivate a world where tech innovations actively contribute to human and planetary well-being for the global majority. Through our pillars of education, research, and action, we're reshaping the tech landscape to center environmental justice principles. We draw inspiration from diverse sources, including Dr. Robert Bullard's definition of environmental justice and Octavia Butler's concept of "histofuturism," to critically examine past and present injustices while envisioning and co-creating thriving futures. By empowering changemakers and young leaders with the knowledge, tools, and frameworks of environmental justice, we aim to transform how technology is developed and deployed, fostering a more just and equitable technological ecosystem.
