"Hold to Reset": Lunch & Learn w/ Joey Aquino & Chef Kealoha Domingo
The final gathering for "Hold to Reset" will be a lunch & learn with Chef Kealoha Domingo. This will be one last opportunity for us to break away from our devices, learn about indigenous cuisine, learn some cooking techniques ourselves, and share in an incredible meal from Chef Kealoha Domingo.
Chef Kealoha is the founder of Nui Kealoha and one of the few Native Hawaiian chefs cooking Hawaiian food commercially and full-time. Born and raised on Oʻahu in Koʻolauloa, Kealoha comes from a multi-generational line of Hawaiian practitioners, though he actually spent years avoiding the kitchen, working as an elevator mechanic before finally giving in to what his family calls "the sickness of cooking." Since going all in on Nui Kealoha, he's cooked at the James Beard House in New York, represented Hawaiʻi at Slow Food's Terra Madre in Turin alongside acclaimed Indigenous chef Sean Sherman, and served at the White House Tribal Leaders gathering, all while staying rooted in the belief that food carries the spiritual connection between ʻāina, kānaka, and mea ʻai: land, people, and food. He'll prepare a special meal for us rooted in that philosophy, and we'll get hands-on ourselves, learning the stories and traditions behind what we're eating rather than just consuming it.
