FSI x GFI x CBI: Climate Finance For Sustainable Proteins

​Climate finance has spent two decades engineering mechanisms — green bonds, blended finance, results-based financing, first-loss guarantees — to pull institutional capital into technologies that traditional investors once considered too early, too risky, or too illiquid. Alternative protein faces that same capital gap today.

​Hosted by The Good Food Institute, Food System Innovations, and Climate Bonds Initiative, this working session brings together climate finance experts, institutional investors, development finance institutions, corporate offtakers, and innovative suppliers to explore proven climate financing mechanisms and adapt them into structures traditional capital can underwrite for sustainable proteins. Four, 5-minute case studies will introduce specific mechanisms. Small-group breakouts will then workshop each mechanism: where it doesn't yet fit sustainable proteins, how to adapt it, and what other mechanisms might address the same underlying risks.
