12/11 Hedonistic Shame and Pleasure: A Salon
Shame and desire are strange bedfellows. We all want something—but what happens when what we want feels unacceptable? When the pursuit of pleasure collides with societal judgment or our own internalized shame, how do we navigate the tension between indulgence and self-acceptance?
Hedonism invites us to lean into joy and desire, but it also challenges us to confront the discomfort that comes with wanting something the world says we shouldn’t. Is hedonism an act of rebellion, or the ultimate form of self-love? Is it freeing, or does it come at a cost?
At this salon, we’ll explore some provocative (and perhaps uncomfortable) questions like:
Why do we feel ashamed of our desires?
Who decides what’s acceptable to want—and why do we let them?
Can we pursue pleasure without guilt, or is shame inevitable?
Is the pursuit of pleasure selfish, or is it a path to authenticity?
When does indulgence become freedom—and when does it cross the line?
Join us for a deep dive into the complexities of hedonism, desire, and shame.
It’ll be in Midtown. Snacks and drinks provided!
PS. Know someone who’s not afraid to explore life’s deeper (and perhaps more indulgent) questions? Invite them to RSVP and join the conversation! :)
