About Event

Curious about the secret life of bees, or dreaming of harvesting your own backyard honey? This introductory workshop takes the mystery out of beekeeping and gives you the confidence to start your very own hive.

Led by Kamiti, this course brings essential backyard theory to life through storytelling and practical, hands-on learning. No boring textbooks here—just real knowledge, direct experience, and an unforgettable stay at Mlango Farm!

The hives at Mlango Farm are ready to be harvested. The harvesting process happens in the evening when the bees are calm! For this special class, we welcome you to join us for an overnight stay at our eco-village and experience the harvesting process with Kamiti. The next morning, Kamiti will guide us on how to sieve our harvest, extract honey and separate the wax.

What we will cover:

  • The "Bee-ology": Understanding the Queen, the Workers, and how a colony functions as a superorganism due to their role in nature.

  • Beehive Setup & Management: How to light a smoker, use a hive tool, and choose the right protective gear.

  • Honey production: What a beekeeper actually does month-by-month and how to refine unprocessed honey!

  • Pest & Health Basics: How to keep your future bees happy, healthy, and safe from common enemies.

Who Can Attend?

This workshop is intentionally designed for absolute beginners. You don't need to own bees, and you don't need any prior experience!

What To Bring?

  • If you know you are allergic to bee-stings; bring your epipen.

  • Come in comfortable shoes and clothes.
