The Climate Party® is building a Scenius - collective genius - for Climate solutions in India.
Climate Parties are a series of immersive learning & ecosystem building events curated to enable interdisciplinary solutionists, either already working in or seriously considering a transition to the Climate space, to discover more of their kind across domains and cross-pollinate ideas for collaborative action.
Our climate parties across 8 cities over the past 2 years have brought together 2800+ diverse Climate stakeholders, from CXOs to students, and culminated in tangible actions.
About the immersive experience
Chennai keeps expanding with built up infrastructure but is this infrastructure enough to sustain life? Probably, not.
New and more real estate in the city has led to shrinking green lungs, loss of wetlands and degraded lands. This in turn has shrunk our city’s natural ability to absorb and manage storm-water, making us more vulnerable to floods, droughts, aquifer depletion, and urban heat islands.
However, the team at Sponge Collaborative has been working to reverse the situation steadily by designing nature-based blue-green infrastructure to bring back the city’s lungs and reservoirs for urban resilience.
After the spectacular response to last year's tour of Dr MS Swaminathan Wetland Eco Park, we are taking you to a yet another ecological marvel in the city - Kalaignar Centenary Climate Park, a unique 16-acre transformation of depleted wasteland to a thriving greenfield for a detailed tour.
In this guided tour, you'll witness an amalgamation of Tamil Nadu’s native ecosystems in four zones - Tropical Dry Evergreen Forests, Grasslands, Hills & Hillocks, and Coastal Landscapes.
You'll learn from the lead designers at Sponge Collaborative about how this atlas of native regional ecologies (symbolized through the zones in the park) regulate heat, store carbon, manage water, and buffer cities against climate shocks.
As we walk, we will decode how climate infrastructure hides in plain sight:
- how vegetation becomes a carbon sink,
- how landscapes engineer cooling, and
- how cities like Chennai can design with nature instead of against it!
