Climeet Mumbai - Zines for Co-existence
Leopards entering housing societies, mosquitoes spreading deadly diseases, elephants raiding crops, or netting balconies to prevent birds: human-wildlife conflict is seen in both urban and rural India.
As wildlife habitats shrink and coastlines erode, understanding coexistence is more important than ever. Are human needs at odds with the conservation of wildlife that keep the planet healthy? No, and for generations, humans have co-existed with wildlife through an intricate jugalbandi of negotiation.
Talk Dharti To Me and Saanjha by Dasra bring you a creative morning of zine making to create a planet of co-existence.
We don’t just co-exist with wildlife in the forests; we must make room for wildlife within our own backyards in cities and human settlements. From pesky mosquitoes to cute stray cats, dying birds to disappearing bees: Mumbai’s biodiversity needs compromise, care, and conservation from its human inhabitants.
Join Talk Dharti to Me and Saanjha by Dasra for this special Climeet focused on coexistence. We'll make zines, exchange stories of our everyday coexistence and learn how communities across India use art, culture and tradition to celebrate living in shared lands.
Through writing and arts & crafts, we'll reflect on our own Mumbai as a space of co-existence with wildlife and nature. Come create something today and leave a little hope for tomorrow.
