Experience First, Then Place
ATÖLYE invites you to
Experience First, Then Place
An evening on how the places we build could be designed for people before they are designed for plots.
For decades, places have been planned plot-first. The massing is set, the plan is fixed, the concrete is poured, and only then does anyone ask how people will move through the place, stay in it, or come to belong. By that point, experience can decorate, but it can no longer decide.
The result is familiar: dead zones that work on drawings but not in life, vibrancy that has to be bought back through programming, and places that take years to be adopted, if they ever are.
We think the sequence should be reversed.
Join us for a conversation with developers, architects, operators and city leaders on what changes when experience comes first. We will look at why vibrancy is designed in early rather than added late, what it costs to get the sequence wrong, and how an experience-first approach gives architecture a clearer brief to build toward.
