Can We Actually Help Wild Animals?

Join us at Collider for a talk with Cameron Meyer Shorb, Executive Director of the Wild Animal Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating the science of wild animal welfare. The vast majority of animals on Earth live in the wild, yet we know almost nothing about the quality of their lives or how to responsibly improve it; WAI funds and conducts the research needed to build that emerging field, and is one of Animal Charity Evaluators' recommended charities.

Cameron leads the effort to turn wild animal welfare from a fringe idea into a rigorous scientific field. His case for taking wild animal suffering seriously has reached a wide audience, including a three-hour appearance on The 80,000 Hours Podcast, and his work has been cited by Peter Singer in Animal Liberation Now, Emma Marris in Wild Souls, and Brandon Keim in Meet the Neighbors. Before WAI, he built coalitions and shaped policy at the Good Food Institute. Whether you've thought about wild animal welfare for years or it's entirely new to you, this should be a fascinating evening on one of the largest and most neglected problems out there.
