About Event

A lot of us wonder how to talk to kids so they can listen. What if we talked to kids so they could think and understand?

In this talk we will dive deep into what words break connection and trust with our kids, and what to say instead.

We will practice what to say when you feel frustrated, confused or powerless, and all your brain can think of is "Why are you not listening?!"

In this session we will work together to take what's on your mind during your most commonly occurring fights and reframe those thoughts into messages that facilitate openness, connection, curiosity and learning.

This practical approach to communication in families is developed by Althea Jones and Mila Horsey, who are both parents, coaches and educators, and is based on declarative language, non-violent communication, and nervous system regulation.

We know this method works because the foundation has helped many educators, has worked with our own kids, and has helped many families that we work with to overcome struggles and burnout.

You'll learn:

  • what words create disconnect and defensiveness in others

  • how to express your feelings without making other person responsible for them

  • how to give information as an invitation for exploration and creativity

This talk would be useful to parents and caregivers of kids of all ages, teachers and education specialists, and especially useful for parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children.
