Marble Arch, Sunday afternoon. Six of us at one table, each on our own thing.
Yours might be a dissertation chapter, a literature review, a market or user research project. Or the job hunt: the applications sitting in a tab, the cover letter you keep rewriting.
You do your own thing in two long blocks, with five other people doing theirs at the same time, which is the part that makes it happen. One proper break in the middle, long enough to actually talk, and twenty minutes at the end where everyone says what they got through.
You leave a chapter, or three applications, further on than you were.
