Nicole Buffett Launches Buffalo Running: The Abundance Agenda — A Mixed-Media Collection Honoring Native American Wisdom
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — September 9, 2025 — Artist Nicole Buffett today announced the debut of Buffalo Running: The Abundance Agenda, a limited-edition fine art and digital project that merges hand-painted animation, historical photography, Indigenous language, and blockchain technology. The collection will be minted on Base and exhibited at The Dimes Gallery in San Francisco on Saturday, November 15th, from 6–10 p.m.
The project features 44 hand-painted animations inspired by archival footage of the American Bison by pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge (1870). Each 16-frame sequence was extracted from its digital form, printed on archival canvas in the format of a film strip, hand-painted, and then returned to digital animation.
The work is accompanied by an original soundscape composed by Michael Greenberg (Nicole Buffett’s first cousin)and Maunka Morgan, a leader of the Ho-Chunk Thunder Clan in Nebraska, who recites a Buffalo Medicine blessing in the Ho-Chunk language. The prayer invokes wellness, abundance, and spiritual connection, amplifying the collection’s intention to bridge art, tradition, and healing.
“The Buffalo is both a sacred symbol and a resource of continual sustenance for Native people,” said Nicole Buffett. “This project is a prayer for connection and preservation. At this crucial moment in human history, Buffalo Running symbolizes our natural inheritance of abundance, interconnection, and reverence for Mother Earth.”
Buffett also sees parallels between Muybridge’s pioneering motion studies and today’s artistic frontier in blockchain and AI. “Muybridge’s early experiments in motion picture projection reflect the very moment we’re in now — at the intersection of traditional fine art and emerging digital technologies,” she said.
