About Hack kopitiam

Hack Kopitiam is a social care research project spear-led by Forest & Whale and Lien Foundation. The strategic care framework activates the coffeeshop as an inclusive model of community care through its stakeholders—managers, runners, hawkers, social workers, designers and artists—creating a social purpose for care advocates in the coffeeshop space to help reduce elder isolation within the community.

About The SESSION

Join us in this volunteer onboarding session as we share how we hack coffeeshop tables for microplacemaking to empower elders through their skills and gifts, thus creating an ecosystem of care. Participants will learn about the lifestories ethnography method. And the volunteers will also share their learning experiences through our social design residency program for student creatives where they co-designed new programs with the elders in the community.

This session is led by Wendy Chua (co-founder, Forest & Whale) and co-facilitated by student design residents Debbie Yuen (NAFA) and Liu Yibai (Lasalle).
