About Event

PRiME Research Rounds is a monthly research presentation featuring talks from PRiME Principal Investigators and Fellows. The seminar sessions bring the PRiME community together for engaging discussions!

Date: Friday, March 6, 2026, 1:00 - 2:00PM (Light refreshments will be provided)
Location: Red Seminar Room, Terrence Donnelly Centre, 160 College Street

Speakers:

Jason Fish, PhD
PRiME PI
Senior Scientist, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, UHN Research Institutes

"Somatic oncogenic mutations cause vascular malformations: An opportunity for precision therapy"

Dr. Jason Fish completed his PhD at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Philip Marsden. Here he uncovered a role for epigenetics in gene regulation in blood vessels. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and the University of California San Francisco under the supervision of Dr. Deepak Srivastava. Here, Dr. Fish uncovered a role for microRNAs in regulating the development of the cardiovascular system. Since moving back to Toronto in 2010, Dr. Fish and his team explore the mechanisms of gene regulation in the endothelium in health and disease. His recent work has uncovered how somatic mutations in the endothelium lead to sporadic brain arteriovenous malformations, a leading cause of stroke in young people. Dr. Fish’s laboratory is also determining how chemotherapy affects the vascular system and how diabetes impacts cardiac function.

Sathishkumar Narayanaswamy
PhD, 2025 PRiME Fellow

University of Toronto & SickKids

"Nano-Linked PROTACs and Bifunctionals: Harnessing Nanoparticles to Enhance Targeted Protein Degradation in Cancer Therapy."

Dr. Sathishkumar Narayanaswamy is a 2025 PRiME Fellow at the University of Toronto and SickKids, and a recipient of the PRiME-TIAP Top-Up Award. Sathish earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in 2022. With expertise in microfluidics and nanomaterials, his research focuses on translating scalable technologies into point-of-care diagnostics. Currently, he is developing Nano-Linked PROTACs to enhance targeted protein degradation for cancer therapy.
