Future Film: Editing with Claude and DaVinci Resolve
Claude can now work directly inside DaVinci Resolve. It can organize your bins, build your multicam sequences, read your transcripts and pull selects onto the timeline. This Tuesday, director and DP Matthew Bowie shows us what happened when he handed it a real documentary edit.
Matthew has spent more than a decade behind the camera for brands including Airbnb, Nike and Oakley. Now he's making What Up Florida, a monthly short-doc series about interesting locals in St. Pete, almost entirely on his own.
He connected Claude to Resolve through its new MCP integration and began handing it the jobs an assistant editor would normally take on. Along the way he found what works best. Give it one task, review the result, make the creative call, and move on to the next step. Now he's turning that into a repeatable workflow he can use on future projects.
On Tuesday, Matthew will screen a short film from the series and walk us through how he made it, from organizing the project to cutting the interview and cleaning up the audio. He'll share a practical tip from each step, what worked and what didn't, and the prompts he used along the way. He'll also talk about where he's taking it next, including a head-to-head test he's planning between Claude and ChatGPT's Astra model on the same Resolve project.
For professional editors and filmmakers, it's a first look at how much of the edit can already be handed off, and where your judgment still runs the cut.
Matthew presents, then we open it up for questions and conversation with the group.
