​About McCormack Writing Center

​In 2003, Win McCormack, working alongside founding director Lee Montgomery and original staff members Elissa Schappell, Holly MacArthur, and Rob Spillman, launched the Tin House Summer Workshop at Reed College. There, they hoped to create a space that matched the rigor of more established East Coast workshops with a West Coast spirit that was more relaxed, non-hierarchical, and open to less-established writers.

​After 23 years under the Tin House banner, the Workshop program has now moved to its new home: the McCormack Writing Center. Here, you will continue to find the same high-caliber, values-based programming for which Tin House was known. The MWC looks forward to hosting events online and at their home in Portland, OR, where they will continue to support writers at every stage of their careers.

​About the Lance Cleland

​Lance Cleland (he/him) is the Executive Director of the McCormack Writing Center. A graduate of UCSB, he lives in Portland's Cully neighborhood with his family and a dog named Mingus. You can occasionally find him moonlighting as DJ Camp Daddy or coaching one of 20 youth/adult teams.
