​About McCormack Writing Center

​In 2003, Win McCormack, working alongside founding director Lee Montgomery and original staff members Elissa Schappell, Holly MacArthur, and Rob Spillman, launched the Tin House Summer Workshop at Reed College. There, they hoped to create a space that matched the rigor of more established East Coast workshops with a West Coast spirit that was more relaxed, non-hierarchical, and open to less-established writers.

​After 23 years under the Tin House banner, the Workshop program has now moved to its new home: the McCormack Writing Center. Here, you will continue to find the same high-caliber, values-based programming for which Tin House was known. The MWC looks forward to hosting events online and at their home in Portland, OR, where they will continue to support writers at every stage of their careers.

​About the A.L. Major

​Originally from The Bahamas, A.L. has received fellowships and residencies from Aspen Words, McCormack Writing Center (formerly known as Tin House Workshop), Baldwin for The Arts, and Monson Arts.

Their work has appeared in Vice Magazine and Subtropics. They earned their MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan, where they were also awarded a Hopwood Novel Award. They are currently working on their debut novel, Every Day You Wake You Raise the Dead. A.L. is a program director at the McCormack Writing Center (formerly known as Tin House Workshop).
