Business Lab: Exploring pathways from research to application
Are you interested in how your research might connect to contexts beyond academia? This lunch seminar is designed for you who want to explore the broader relevance of your work and gain practical tools to support that process at an early stage.
In the session, you will be introduced to structured approaches for analysing and developing possible pathways from research to use. In particular, we will work with the Lean Canvas as an analytical tool to help you map key dimensions of a potential application or collaboration context. Rather than focusing on venture creation, the framework is used to support your reflection on relevance, stakeholders, anticipated value, and underlying assumptions – making implicit considerations visible and open to further exploration.
You will also be introduced to Customer Discovery, understood as a systematic way of engaging with potential users, partners, or stakeholders. Through such dialogue, you can gain insights into how your research questions, methods, or outputs resonate outside academia, and use these insights to refine both direction and communication.
During the session, we will:
Explore how a structured canvas can support your reflection on potential application and use of your research
Identify key assumptions related to stakeholders, needs, and forms of value
Discuss how early dialogue with external actors can inform your research trajectory
Receive practical guidance on how to approach and learn from such interactions
You are welcome to bring an early-stage idea, an ongoing research project, or simply a curiosity about how your research can engage with wider societal contexts.
This seminar is part of Malmö University’s Business Lab, a series of sessions designed to support researchers in exploring how their work can be further developed in relation to potential use, collaboration, and societal relevance. You can read more about the series here!
