Virtual | Your Heart Is Calling: Moving Through Grief and Building Resilience with Kaisha Lawrence
Nobody sent a card. There was no service, no casserole, no week off work. Something ended anyway.
Maybe it was the career you built for 15 years and then could not do anymore. Maybe it was your health, and the version of you that used to be able to say yes to things. Maybe it was a marriage that is still legally intact. Maybe it was just the person you thought you were going to turn out to be.
And now you are in the strange middle, doing your best, telling people you are fine, and quietly wondering when you get to feel normal again.
Here is what almost nobody says out loud. The old normal is the thing that is dying. That is why you cannot get back to it.
Join ceremonial cacao facilitator and resilience coach Kaisha Lawrence for a 60 minute Wisdom Circle on how to move through the grief nobody names, and what typically gets ignored.
This will be part experiential and part teaching experience.
In this workshop, Kaisha offers five core steps:
Grace. Because guilt and shame are how most of us got here in the first place. A down day is not against the rules.
Signal safety. You can open a door and change the temperature of a room. The moment it shuts, the thermostat pulls it back. Facing the hard thing is only half of it. You have to tell your nervous system it is safe to be somewhere new.
Turn and face it, one little way. Stay in the discomfort until it becomes comfortable. Write down two or three things that want to change. Nobody else reads the paper.
Meet yourself where you are. Nobody meditates 45 minutes on day 1. A ladder with the rungs too far apart is not a ladder you can climb. Find what is accessible for you.
The spiral. It will feel like you are back where you started. You are not. Everything in nature moves in spirals, and every time you pass the same place, you are a little further in.
The heart goes first
Kaisha's whole practice rests on something most of us forget. The heart tells the brain more than the brain tells the heart. The heart reads safe or not safe, the brain sends the hormones to match, and then builds a story that fits what it was handed.
Which means we have been trying to think our way out of something that was never decided in the head.
It is not that we have not thought all the thoughts we needed to think. It is that we have not felt all the feelings we needed to feel.
About the Cacao
Kaisha will be holding cacao while she guides us, and if you have ceremonial cacao at home, we invite you to bring a cup.
You do not need it to be here. Warm tea or cocoa works beautifully. What we are doing is warming the chest and opening the breath, and Rev. Jemie Sae Koo, MA will facilitate by taking you through her signature breathing exercise that will help you connect with a more expanded states just with your breath.
