This session

Strength and gentleness aren't opposites. In this session, you'll need both.

The Gentle Art of Playfighting is Benjamin's own practice. It's physical, it's playful and it's surprisingly kind. It brings a lot of joy, it feeds the body and it builds connection. And it shows that with goodwill and compassion, even the things we usually avoid can become a practice that does you good.

We start with a guided meditation and warm up with movement games. What comes after, we'll keep to ourselves for now. Let's just say most of us haven't done it since we were kids.

Always with consent, always at your own pace.

What you take away

  • Feel your own strength, and the joy of using it with care

  • Learn to meet resistance with softness instead of stiffness

  • Connect with others through play, trust and physical contact

Today's artist

Benjamin Joon has over 20 years of experience in the martial arts and practises Zen, Contact Improvisation, bodywork and the somatic arts. As a coach, workshop leader and organiser, he creates spaces for joy, loving community, authenticity and deep insight.

How this can work for teams

What happens in this room also happens at work. How we meet resistance. How directly we can push back on a colleague without going stiff or going quiet. How much of our own strength we are willing to show.

Those things are hard to explain and easy to feel. Artists have spent decades practising exactly that, and we call it Artistic Intelligence.

If you lead a team, or look after how people work together, come and try it yourself first. We also run private sessions with our artists for companies, usually two to three hours, at your office or at a venue we find for you. Write to hello@uncommon.club and we'll think it through with you.

What is Uncommon Club?

Uncommon Club creates guided group experiences built around shared novelty, doing something unfamiliar together, in a way that feels safe, human, and intentional.

We believe that when people step into a new experience at the same time, without knowing exactly what will happen, habits soften, curiosity opens, and connection becomes more natural.

That’s why Uncommon Club sessions are:

  • carefully guided and consent-led,

  • designed around presence rather than performance,

  • and kept partly a surprise.

What Uncommon Club is, and isn’t

Uncommon Club is:

  • ✅ A guided, facilitator-led group experience

  • ✅ Focused on curiosity, embodiment, and human connection

  • ✅ Structured, consent-led, and psychologically safe

Uncommon Club is not:

  • ❌ A party or club night

  • ❌ An intense fitness class

  • ❌ A networking event

  • ❌ A sexual setting

  • ❌ Therapy, counselling, or treatment

How our experiences work

Every Uncommon Club experience is carefully guided and unfolds in phases

Phase 1️⃣ — Arrival
Arrive, settle, and land in the space and group.

Phase 2️⃣ — Warm-up
Our light-hearted card games help you arrive in the moment.

Phase 3️⃣ — Exploration
The heart of the session. Playful, embodied and surprising.

Phase 4️⃣ — Reflection
We slow things down and let the experience settle, with a light drink and a small bite.

Phase 5️⃣ — Connection
A clear closing moment, with space to linger.. or leave quietly.

That's fine. A "no" is as bold as a "yes". You can always step back or observe instead of joining in, and this will be explained and emphasised at the start of every experience.
