About Event

** This is a LIVE session and will not be recorded. **

Agent Hours is your chance to connect directly with literary agents, ask questions, and receive live feedback—all in an interactive session designed to help you level up your querying game.

This week, we're thrilled to welcome literary agent James Spackman to Agent Hour.

You can submit:

  • A question about the querying process or author/agent relationships.

  • A query letter or pitch for feedback.

  • NEW: The opening pages of your manuscript (up to 700 words). These will be read live as if they were coming across an agent’s desk.

👉 Important: If you’d like feedback on your first pages, your submission must be in an area that falls within the agent's area expertise (see What James Represents below).

How It Works

1️⃣ Submit Your Questions or Query Letters: Ticket holders will receive instructions on submitting questions or query letters upon purchase.
2️⃣ Show Up Live: Join us on Zoom for a 60-minute, ask-me-anything-style session.
3️⃣ Listen & Learn: Watch agents answer questions, share insider advice, and offer live feedback.

⚠️ Please note: While we aim to address as many submissions as possible, attendance and ticket purchase does not guarantee feedback. Priority feedback goes to London Writers’ Salon members (Silver and Gold). If time permits, we will turn to questions and query letters from ticketed attendees.

Perks for Gold Members 🏆

  • Priority Feedback: Gold members’ questions and query letters will be addressed first.

  • Recorded Insights: Can’t make it live? Gold members can submit their questions/query letters in advance and receive a private recording.

About James Spackman

James’ book career, which started glamorously in the postroom of Bloomsbury Publishing, has involved sales and marketing roles there, at John Murray and at Hodder. He was MD of Watkins (then part of Osprey Group) before setting up on his own.

He now commissions geeky books about cycling for Profile, under the imprint Pursuit. In 2018 he set up The bks Agency with two ex Hodder colleagues. He coaches publishers and agents in presentation skills as The Book Pitch Doctor and he is also founder of The Spare Room Project (sponsored by Penguin Random House) which finds free accommodation for interns in London.
