The Wise Agency: Accomplish Consciously, Together (In-Person, Toronto)

“High agency”—the ability to get things done within complex systems—is all the rage today. It captures the spirit of taking initiative, solving problems, and refusing to wait for permission: “you can just do things.”
Yet one can be a highly agentic fool, creating net harm rather than net good, and fostering a burnout culture: “the deadliness of doing,” as the philosopher Michael Oakeshott calls it.
Enter wise agency: the power not only to accomplish things, but to accomplish the right things, in the right way, at the right time, for the right reason.
The Wise Agency is a four-part series of presentations and an “inverse course” that aims to draw on participants’ collective wisdom to identify how to accomplish consciously, together.

Each session is live on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. ET via Zoom and runs for two hours: the first hour features a presentation and Q&A, and the second is a collective inquiry into wise agency.

Ayelet Fishbach is a behavioral scientist and professor of marketing at the University of Chicago who studies how motivation and goal-setting can align with intrinsic meaning and wise action.
C. Thi Nguyen is a philosopher who explores how games shape agency, inviting us to act with greater awareness of the systems we inhabit.
Paul Millerd is the author of The Pathless Path, where he shares insights on redefining success and building a meaningful life outside conventional career frameworks.
Scott Britton is an entrepreneur, founder of Conscious Talent, and author of Conscious Accomplishment, exploring how one can be both highly conscious and highly agentic.
Note: The Wise Agency experience has parallel sessions: an in-person experience (found here on Luma) and an online-only experience (found on Metalabel). You only need to sign up for one or the other. The in-person session has a cap of 20 people and requires applications. The online session has no cap or applications.
