Middle Powers Hackathon
The Montréal site of the Middle Powers hackathon, run online by Mangrove. On Saturday, October 31, from 10:00 to 22:00, teams work at Ω Labs on what countries beyond the US and China can do to make AI go well. Each team picks one jurisdiction, Canada for example, and builds a strategy, proposal or tool showing how it could use its leverage: energy, chips, infrastructure, algorithms, talent or consumption.
Come solo (Mangrove matches people into teams) or with a group you already have. A rough prototype is fine.
Please also register on Mangrove's hackathon page by Thursday, October 29 at 14:00: only registered teams can submit. The online kickoff is Friday, October 30 at 15:00, and submissions close Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 (Montréal time).
Tracks:
Regulation: laws, standards, safety testing, conditions on public procurement
Investment: compute, talent, research, safety institutes
Diplomacy: treaties, coalitions, trade, influence on the US, China and frontier labs
$1,000 in prizes: $500, $300 and $200.
