$227M+ for EV Charging in CA: NEVI Rounds 3, 4 & 5
Thank you to all who attended. You can review the slides and recording.
----
Join Climate Finance Solutions for a 45-minute expert briefing on three recent EV charging infrastructure funding opportunities from the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, covering Rounds 3, 4, and the newly released Round 5.
Together, these NEVI solicitations make $227.5M available to support the deployment of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty EV charging infrastructure across California. Across all rounds, projects are limited to designated transportation corridors and subject to a high readiness bar. Competitive applications typically already demonstrate site control, preliminary design, active utility coordination, and a clear permitting and environmental review pathway.
NEVI tracks at a glance:
Round 3: Light-Duty (LD)
• Corridor-based light-duty EV charging projects
• Minimum of four 150 kW+ DC fast charging ports per site
• Covers up to 80% of eligible project costs (capped at $15M per applicant)
• Total funding available: $79M
Rounds 4 and 5: Medium- and Heavy-Duty (MD/HD)
• MD/HD charging hubs serving corridor-adjacent freight and commercial vehicles
• Minimum 3 MW of combined EV charging nameplate capacity and 8 DC fast charging ports per site
• Covers up to 80% of eligible project costs, capped at $8M
• Total funding available: $69.5M under Round 4 (Northern and Central California) and $79M under Round 5 (Southern California)
• (Round 5 only) Sites must be “MW-ready” to support future expansion
What We’ll Cover
• Whether your project meets eligibility and competitiveness requirements for NEVI Rounds 3, 4, or 5
• How to meet project readiness requirements for CEC- and NEVI-funded programs
• Key risk areas, including corridor siting and utility coordination, that delay or disqualify otherwise strong EV infrastructure applications
• How funding caps, cost-share rules, and applicant limits affect project strategy and portfolio planning
The session will be led by Anna Kulow, Grant Development Lead at CFS and a transportation funding expert with extensive experience not only in EV funding programs, but also in developing and managing EV charging infrastructure.
