Scientist to Founder: Building the UK's Next Wave of Deep Tech Startups

If you're wondering: How do I turn my breakthrough science into a startup? Am I addressing a problem with a large enough market? How do I recruit a team? Am I the right person to do it?

Join us to hear Alex Teng, Partner at Fifty Years, share insights from helping hundreds of scientists translate breakthrough science into deep tech startups.

Fifty Years is an early-stage VC firm. At 50Y, we’ve built deep tech companies ourselves and published the Spinout Playbook, the ultimate guide to spin out of academia. We've backed over 100 deep tech startups and helped them raise over $4.6B.

We've distilled everything we know about deep tech entrepreneurship into 5050, a free, 16-week programme to help great scientists and engineers become great founders. Applications open this week!

In this workshop, we'll dive into how to identify civilization-scale problems to tackle, break down ideas into fundable milestones, develop essential entrepreneurship skills (from hiring to fundraising to negotiating IP), and grow into a great founder.

You’ll get a taste of how 5050 will equip scientists and engineers in the UK to build the next decade of civilization-defining companies. Whether you're validating an idea or exploring whether entrepreneurship is right for you, see you in Newcastle!

We'll have food and drinks!

5050 UK is powered through our partnership with the Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA)

ARIA is an R&D funding agency created to unlock technological breakthroughs that benefit everyone. Created by an Act of Parliament, and sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, ARIA funds teams of scientists and engineers to pursue research at the edge of what is scientifically and technologically possible.
