Live Debate: Is AI Net-good for the Human Species?
AI is rapidly reshaping the institutions essential to a thriving society: education, healthcare, economy, energy and infrastructure, information, etc. Experts closest to the technology are notably bullish, but the costs are real too - job displacement, eroded trust, and a growing energy/resource footprint. Meanwhile, public skepticism is rising fast, especially among younger generations.
This event will feature both camps - "AI-Good" vs "AI-Not-Good" - sharing the same stage to argue head-to-head whether AI strengthens or hollows out the institutions and behaviors that let societies, and the humans in them, thrive. The audience will serve as a jury to render a verdict at the end via a live poll.
Lead Debaters:
AI-Good: Geeta Menon (One Earth One Chance) + Justin Hitt (Lincoln Property Company)
AI-Not-Good: June Jones (UT Dallas) + Aliana Sheriff (Melissa High School)
Format: 2-3 rounds, each arguing a subtopic chosen live by the audience (education; healthcare; economy; energy & infrastructure; information)
Want to argue a side? Let us know when you register. At the event, the lead debaters will pick a third teammate for each subtopic, on the spot, from the pool of interested registrants (selection not guaranteed).
