Flow Chamber: Parallel Creativity Session
The Flow Chamber is a virtual parallel work space where our group presence fuels our personal creative and productive progress over the course of one hour. It is based on the new phenomena of "body doubling" in which people work parallel to each other on independent tasks in a live online space.
This method is often touted as an antidote to procrastination and a "super tool" for those with ADHD, with reported benefits like:
Increased Focus
Built-in Accountability
Natural Co-Regulation of the Nervous System
Enhanced Creativity
Higher Task Completion Rates
Improved Executive Function
Shared Sense of Purpose
Here's how each session works…
Join the call at the scheduled time with a specific task to work on.
It can be ANYTHING (there is no judgment!): a chunk of your novel, a blog post, a new budget, a water color painting, a shopping list… whatever is most present on your mind that you want to make progress on.We open the session with a BRIEF share: What you are working on and your goal for the hour (i.e. "I'm working on an essay for my Substack and I want to write at least 300 words…")
30 minutes into the session, you add an optional TEXT ONLY status update into the chat. If you are in deep flow, you don't need to interrupt it and you also won't be interrupted by others.
We close the session with a brief report on how we progressed toward our goal.
It's that simple! The goal is to leverage the power of each other in a casual, low-socialization environment. We become each other's powerful accountability partners for a focused hour of flow!
