About Event

Wetlands - from freshwater marshes and floodplains to coastal mangroves and seagrass beds - are among the most powerful yet undervalued tools for building climate adaptation and resilience.

Despite protecting hundreds of millions of people from floods, droughts and storm surges, and storing vast quantities of blue carbon, wetlands remain largely absent from emerging voluntary carbon and adaptation credit markets.

This event brings together leading voices from finance, conservation and the private sector to explore how adaptation and resilience credits can unlock new flows of private and public finance for wetland conservation and restoration at scale.

Speakers will examine the African Development Bank's Adaptation Benefit Mechanism as a model for crediting adaptation outcomes, the growing role of the private sector in financing wetland resilience, and the emerging partnerships built by BirdLife International on nature-positive investment through flyway initiatives. This moderated panel discussion will explore what it will take to move from pilot projects to a functioning market for wetland adaptation credits, and who needs to do what to get there.

This event will be followed by tea and coffee until 3 p.m.
