A Special Program Connecting Global Startups, Investment Communities, and Business Opportunities
Building on the growing interest and opportunities for exchange generated by Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, this program aims to transform these connections from a one-time opportunity into continuous collaboration.
Through Nakanoshima Qross, we seek to foster an international life science innovation ecosystem and investment community that connects startups, investors, corporations, research institutions, and global innovation hubs.
The program will feature three events. In addition to introducing activities and initiatives by overseas life science clusters, VCs, and CVCs, promising Japanese startups and US startups will deliver pitches designed to facilitate new business matching and international collaboration among investors, corporations, and startups.

Tetsu Yung, PhD MBA / Founder & CEO of TETSUNAGI Consulting Inc.
Tetsu Yung, PhD, MBA is the Founder and CEO of TETSUNAGI Consulting Inc., a life sciences consultancy dedicated to bridging Japan with the global biopharma and biotech ecosystem. He brings close to 25 years of experience across pharmaceutical R&D, clinical development, CRO operations, business development, and academia.
Tetsu began his career as a post-doc at the Tokyo Institute of Technology before joining Eisai, where he supported the Chief Scientific Officer in overseeing the company’s global R&D pipeline. He subsequently spent almost 12 years at Covance/Labcorp/Fortrea Japan, leading clinical development projects and serving as Head of the Clinical Team Lead group.
Today, he advises biotech and pharmaceutical companies on Japan–global strategy, partnering, licensing, fund raising, clinical development, and cross-border collaboration. His work increasingly focuses on connecting emerging biotech innovation with investors, strategic partners, and development opportunities across Japan and internationally.
Tetsu holds a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology and an MBA in Finance and International Management. A lifelong cross-cultural bridge, he is fluent in English, Japanese, Mandarin, French, and Spanish.
Andy Kadlec, M.D., Ph.D. / Founder and CEO of Ten Bay Bio
Andy is Founder and CEO of Ten Bay Bio, a stealth US-based biotech. Most recently, Andy was part of the core team leading in-licensing and NewCo formation activities at Aditum Bio. Previously, he was an investor at Vida Ventures and Clarevia. He completed his MD and PhD at the Medical College of Wisconsin and undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Ten Bay Bio is a seed-stage biotechnology company developing first-in-class bispecific antibodies for immune and inflammatory diseases. Founded in 2024 and based in Milwaukee (USA), the company is built on the observation that there exist numerous immune-mediated diseases that are complex, and blocking any single pathway allows compensatory mechanisms to survive, leading to persistent disease progression and suboptimal therapeutic efficacy. By targeting central nodes driving disease and engaging multiple pathways in one molecule, Ten Bay is designed to close that escape route and provide more comprehensive impact with first-in-class therapies. The lead program addresses fibro-inflammatory diseases, with a portfolio spanning other complex immune-mediated conditions, including asthma/COPD and dermatomyositis/SLE.
Christopher P Locher, Ph.D. / Co-founder and CEO of Versatope Therapeutics, Inc.
Christopher P. Locher, PhD is the CEO and a co-founder of Versatope Therapeutics, a clinical-stage Massachusetts-based company currently focused on developing immunotherapeutics using nano-vesicles. He previously led drug discovery projects at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Boston, inflammatory diseases projects at Opsona Therapeutics in Ireland and malaria and alphavirus vaccines projects at Maxygen in California. He completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, was a Fulbright Hays Research Fellow at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium and received his PhD in Tropical Medicine and BA in Biological Sciences from the University of Hawai`i.
Versatope Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that leverages a proprietary synthetic biology platform to design cutting-edge immunotherapies and vaccines. Originally licensed from Cornell University, the company’s core technology utilizes genetically engineered, detoxified bacterial extracellular vesicles (bEVs) derived from probiotic membranes. Chris Hopkins, Ph.D. / CEO of Glafabra
Chris is an experienced geneticist, biochemist, and entrepreneur. He guided the acquisition of Knudra Transgenics by InVivo Biosystems. He participated in raising over $5 M in funding from venture capital. Achieved more than $7 M in non-dilutive funding from SBIRs. Licensed CRISPR technology in 2014 shortly after it was invented. Inventor on 20+ patents. Created more than 40 service product lines. Cultivated a sales and marketing team that achieved more than $10M in market revenue.
Glafabra is a preIND stage company bring a clinically-demonstrated, cell-based gene therapy to Fabry patients. We also will be bringing similar platforms to market in Gaucher and Pompe. Glafabra is actively seeking partners to help start clinical trials in the US and abroad.
Örn Almarsson / Co-founder and CEO of Axelyf, Inc.
Örn Almarsson is Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Axelyf, where he leads development of the AXL ionizable lipid platform for safe, redosable RNA delivery beyond the liver. He brings more than three decades of leadership across pharmaceutical material science, formulation design, and translational drug development.
Trained as a bio-organic chemist (Ph.D., UC Santa Barbara, 1994; postdoctoral fellow, MIT), he began his industry career at Merck & Co., contributing to the room-temperature-stable formulation of INVANZ®. He later served as senior director of pharmaceutical chemistry at Transform Pharmaceuticals, the MIT spin-out acquired by Johnson & Johnson, and then headed J&J's US early development network spanning discovery through Phase 2a transitions. At Alkermes, he oversaw ARISTADA®, ARISTADA® INITIO®, and LYBALVI® through FDA approval. As Head of Drug Delivery at Moderna from 2013 to 2020, he built the delivery and process chemistry organizations and led development of the SM-102 LNP system used in all Moderna commercial vaccines including the individualized neoantigen therapy in the Merck-Moderna partnership. He subsequently served as Chief Technology Officer at Lyndra Therapeutics.
At Axelyf, he is advancing AX-004, an in vivo CAR-T program that delivers CAR instructions directly to T cells.
Axelyf, Inc., is a Massachusetts-based startup company in biotechnology focused on RNA-LNP technology for developing targeted therapies. The first program is a redosable in vivo CAR-T for hepatocellular cancer.

Tetsu Yung, PhD, MBA は、ライフサイエンス分野において日本と世界のバイオ医薬品・バイオテクノロジー業界をつなぐことを使命とする、TETSUNAGI Consulting Inc.の創業者兼CEOです。製薬R&D、臨床開発、CROオペレーション、事業開発、アカデミアにわたり、約25年の経験を有しています。
(旧）東京工業大学でポスドクとしてキャリアをスタートした後、エーザイに入社し、Chief Scientific Officer（CSO）によるグローバルR&Dパイプラインの統括を支援しました。その後、Covance/Labcorp/Fortrea Japanに約12年間在籍し、臨床開発プロジェクトをリードするとともに、Clinical Team Lead部門長を務めました。
現在は、バイオテクノロジー企業および製薬企業に対し、日本とグローバルをつなぐ事業戦略、パートナリング、ライセンシング、資金調達、臨床開発、クロスボーダー・コラボレーションについてアドバイスを提供しています。近年は特に、革新的な新興バイオテクノロジー企業と、投資家、戦略的パートナー、さらには日本および海外における開発機会を結びつける活動に注力しています。
