ββ‘ TPCYYC FREESTYLE RULES
βREAD THIS BEFORE REGISTERING.
βIf you register for this tournament, you are agreeing to play by TPCYYC Freestyle rules.
βThis is NOT traditional pickleball scoring.
βWe play our own format because we want the games to move faster, keep everyone involved and make every position count.
βTHE GOLDEN RULE:
βEVERY POSITION = 1 POINT.
βThatβs it.
βYou do NOT need to win the serve to score.
βYou do NOT need to be serving to score.
βEvery completed position/rally results in a point for the team that wins it.
βEXAMPLES
βπ You win the rally β Your team gets 1 point.
βπ Opponent hits the ball out β Your team gets 1 point.
βπ Opponent hits the net β Your team gets 1 point.
βπ Opponent commits a fault β Your team gets 1 point.
βπ You commit a fault β Their team gets 1 point.
βπ You serve and lose the rally β They get the point.
βThere is no βside outβ scoring.
βEvery position matters.
βWHY DO WE PLAY THIS WAY?
βBecause it keeps the games moving.
βMore points matter.
More rallies matter.
More players stay involved.
βAnd nobody has to sit there waiting for their team to win the serve back.
β
βπ TOURNAMENT FORMAT
βThe tournament format will depend on the number of teams registered, but every team is guaranteed a minimum of 4 games.
βπ 6β7 TEAMS
βWith 6β7 teams registered, weβll play a Round Robin format, where every team plays against the other teams.
βAfter round-robin play, the top 4 teams will advance to the playoffs.
βπ Semifinals β Championship
βπ 8+ TEAMS
βWith 8 or more teams, weβll use Pool Play, dividing teams into groups.
βTeams will play within their pool, with standings determined by wins and point differential.
βThe top teams from each pool will advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket.
βπ Playoffs β Semifinals β Championship
βRegardless of the number of teams, our goal is to make sure everyone gets plenty of time on the court, with a minimum of 4 games guaranteed per team.
βThe final tournament structure and schedule will be announced once registration closes and the total number of teams is confirmed.
β
ββ οΈ IMPORTANT
βTPCYYC Freestyle is the format for this tournament.
βYou are agreeing to these rules when you register.
βIf traditional pickleball scoring is what youβre looking for, this may not be the tournament for you β and thatβs completely okay.
βBut once youβre on the court, TPCYYC Freestyle is the format.
βThe refereeβs decision during play is final.
βNo arguing over the scoring system.
βNo βthatβs not how pickleball works.β
βYou signed up for TPCYYC Freestyle. π
β.
βπ COMPETITION STARTS PROMPTLY AT 8:00 PM
βPlease be on time.
βWe want to keep the tournament running smoothly and make sure everyone gets their guaranteed games.
β
