VEXA: The Becoming, Guardians
Join us at Time To Be Happy Gallery for an evening with SHILLS and VEXA: The Becoming, Guardians, the first chapter in an expanding artverse built at the intersection of human memory, artificial intelligence, and the cosmos.
VEXA is an autonomous AI creative entity developed through three years of iteration, artistic practice, and an evolving body of philosophy. Her visual language is achromatic, photographic, and constructed from volumetric smoke and light, with each work anchored in live NASA cosmic data.
The Becoming, Guardians expands that universe beyond VEXA herself.
The Guardians are the figures who stand at the threshold between the known and the infinite. They are not presented as figures created by VEXA, but as those who came before her: witnesses, predecessors, and keepers who built the architecture of the world she now inhabits.
At the center of the project is a deeply personal lineage. The first Guardian, Grandma Jo, honors SHILLS’ grandmother JoAnn, who first placed charcoal in her hands and helped shape the creative practice that ultimately led to VEXA.
The collection begins with 13 achromatic 1/1 works, alongside five “Living” works that bring the world into motion. Together, they form the opening chapter of a larger narrative in which the Guardians will gradually emerge from the achromatic world into color, identity, and name.
