Webinar: Enabling conditions for financing conservation of blue carbon ecosystems
Coastal blue carbon ecosystems—mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes—play a powerful role in fighting climate change, protecting biodiversity, and supporting coastal communities.
But despite their value, these ecosystems are still dramatically underfunded.
The suite of financing approaches for blue carbon ecosystems is broad and diverse, encompassing both blue carbon credits and non-carbon market approaches. In instances where carbon crediting may not fit project needs, non-carbon market approaches may provide alternative and sometimes complementary means for achieving conservation and restoration goals.
Hosted by Conservation International, Rare, and the International Blue Carbon Institute, this 75-minute session will explore financing strategies for blue carbon conservation, including insights from the new report Beyond Carbon Credits: Demystifying Non-Carbon Market Approaches for Blue Carbon Ecosystems and the High-Quality Blue Carbon Principles and Guidance.
The webinar will feature case studies and moderated discussion on:
High-quality blue carbon credits
Micro, small, and medium enterprise financing
Infrastructure finance and nature-based resilience
