Step onto the rooftop and celebrate the start of the season at Open Farm Day at Brooklyn Grange Sunset Park Farm.
Spend the day exploring our 3.2-acre rooftop farm through hands-on activities, seasonal food, local vendors, and opportunities to dig directly into the work of urban farming. Guests can join our Farmer-for-a-Day workshop and work alongside our farming team with real field tasks like weeding, compost turning, mulching, and more — getting their hands dirty while learning what it takes to grow food in the city.
Throughout the day, shop a selection of plants and seedlings grown by the Brooklyn Grange team, explore the rooftop with guided farm tours, and enjoy skyline views from one of the largest rooftop soil farms in the world.
Food for the day will be prepared by Bronx-born chef Julien Castillo, whose menu draws inspiration from backyard gatherings, bold comfort food, and seasonal ingredients. Guests can expect dishes like chicken “Hen-Dogs” with roasted garlic dijonnaise and charred pepper relish, smoky potato salad with smoked egg and house-fried potato chips, shrimp aguachile with cucumber and serrano, and 24-hour brined boiled peanuts with schmaltz and lemon pepper spice.
Whether you come to farm, eat, shop, or simply spend the day outdoors, Spring Fest offers a chance to experience the farm from the soil to the skyline.
