ML Pub Club #15: How useful are ML&AI in robotics competitions?

​Robotics competitions aim to promote the early application of the latest machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques, testing them in real-world challenges. But how successful are these competitions in achieving that goal? 🤖

​For our ML Pub Club #15, we will be joined by Frano Petric, Postdoctoral Researcher at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER)!

​By reviewing the participation of teams from FER (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing) in various competitions (EuRorobotics Challenges - EuRoC, European Robotics League - ERL, MBZIRC 2020, MBZIRC 2023), as well as their multi-year experience in organizing drone competitions at the ICUAS conference, together with Frano we will examine the prevalence and effectiveness of the latest ML and AI solutions compared to traditional techniques in the areas of robotic perception, navigation, planning, and decision-making. 🚀
