The Writer's Nerve: Melbourne, November
"As our communications are pushed into the homogenous by influences like generative AI and marketing-first approaches, finding the nerve to write from a truth-based place is the writer's essential task in 2026.
Over two nights, across two three-hour sessions, we'll come together as a group to discuss what makes writing beyond convention so critical – and look at how it works in spirited opposition to the dull, flattened shape of the proposed future of writing."
Details:
Between 6.30pm and 9.30pm across two nights, a 10-person workshop to discuss, explore and challenge the task of writing for modern times.
Location to be revealed in coming weeks. Snacks and drinks provided.
Night 1:
A short talk on the work of writing from the gut and resisting the expected
Three writing exercises designed to drive exploration and 'getting out of your own way'
Live feedback, discussion and whatever comes from it as a group – considering shape, tone, voice, rhythm and narrative
Night 2:
Three hours of free writing using what we've learned and discussed, with breakouts to workshop with me & one another
Concerted effort to apply nerve to our writing
