Understanding Cross-Border Shopping and Grocery Price Formation in Belgium and Neighbouring Markets
This session will launch the 8th BABM Cross-Border Consumer Price Barometer, now expanded to include Germany alongside Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France.
Combining cross-border consumer grocery price data with analysis of national retail market structures, retailer concentration and commercial organisation, the Barometer provides a more complete picture of how consumer prices are formed across neighbouring markets. It highlights the importance of retail market dynamics and retail commercial strategy in explaining cross-border price differences and provides new insights into the operation of Europe’s grocery markets at a time when cross-border prices, competition, fairness and the functioning of the Single Market are at the centre of the policy debate.
